While we were at my parent's house this past weekend, the grandkids/cousins decided to go to the creek. While they were down there, they fished out some tadpoles. So, now we have a summer living project, watching the tadpoles grow into frogs. Guess I better do some googling about how to "care" for them until their final stage. We will set them free in the creek near our house.

Summer 2013

This past Wednesday, Emily had her last day of second grade and began her summer break. Although she was glad for summer, she hated to leave her teacher. We had an awesome teacher this year! All of the teachers at our school are great but this one is exceptional. Anyhow, to keep the summer from getting too boring (and driving me crazy), I have made up a daily schedule for M-F to keep things moving along. Here it is:

7:00 - 8:00am Breakfast
8:00 - 9:00am TV Time
 9:00 - 10:30am Arts & Crafts
10:30 - 12:00pm Annalynn nap/Emily free time
12:00 - 1:00pm Lunch
1:00 - 2:00pm Reading/Learning time
2:00 - 3:00pm Chores
3:00 - 4:30pm Free time
4:30 - 5:00pm Clean up for dinner/TV Time

The arts & crafts slot also includes trips to the park, strawberry picking, nature trail, etc. I decided to do that early in the day before the sun really kicks in for the day. I do have some day trips planned so this schedule won't apply.

Yesterday we went on a nature hike and had a scavenger hunt. Emily found everything on her list. We also stopped by the creek and dipped our feet in.

Today, we went strawberry picking and then headed to the zoo. It was a beautiful day with little humidity. Tonight we are heading downtown to listen to the symphony's annual summer concert. Again, the weather is going to be great!

Tomorrow morning, we are going to go strawberry picking again and take in a minor league baseball game with my sister and her family. Busy weekend!! And that's just the tip of the iceberg. But of course, I will always get in my crochet time! Guess that will be during Annalynn's nap time and free time. Just like the girls, I too will have my chores. =)

Crochet Pot Tops

I saw a cute crocheted pot topper and just had to try it. It was fairly quick and easy. I made it in cotton and put it on the round knob of cooking pot lid. The ruffled edge helps protect the fingers while grasping the knob.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas.....

Well, here in the South, we are always dreaming of a white Christmas as we rarely get them. So this year I have decided to make my Christmas tree a snowflake only tree. I am crocheting snowflakes throughout the year for this huge task. Some of the flakes are 1.75" in size up to 5" in size. I am using crocheting thread so they look much more intricate. Here is a flake I finished today:

The pattern to this flake can be found here.

I have made a few already which is located at this post.

Flower Power!!

One of my BFF's Tisha, asked if I had seen the crocheted dishcloths. I told her that I can make them and her eyes got really big. I knew exactly which one to make for her and that she would request hot pink. Coincidentally, I had that color in my stash! So I whipped her up a dishcloth today. I am also going to make her a potholder with the same design and color.

Easy Crocheted Wine Bottle Cover

I bought a bottle of wine for my BFF Casey's birthday and wanted to put it in something cute. I knew there had to be a crochet pattern for one that was simple. I came across the Easy Wine Bottle Cover pattern and got started. It took me about 2 hours in between distractions.

She looked in her gift bag, pulled it out and was shocked! She thought it was cute and unbelievable! All the ladies at the lunch table thought it was great!

Finished Living Room throw

I finally finished the throw for the living room! It took me right at 2 weeks working on it off and on in between other projects.

living room throw
The pattern is Kew Gardens Afghan from Lionbrand. It is supposed to measure 55" but since I crochet tight, mine measures 48". The last 5 rounds were doozies. I didn't think it would ever end! Now to finish the girls' individual afghans.

In My Dreams

I had the pleasure of testing out another pattern for my friend JoJo on Ravelry. This one is called "In My Dreams". I used Caron Simply Soft in Sage and Sunshine. I love all the "holes" in this one as I think it gives it a unique look. The finished size is 6".

The Twelve Apostles

A friend at Sisters Crocheted & Knitted in Christ (SCKC) on Ravelry needed some testers for a pattern she had written. I volunteered to be one. I had never tested a pattern before. She emailed me the pattern and I had to crochet the square and make any corrections. The pattern works easily and takes hardly any time. Once the testing is complete, she will make the pattern available. Here is my unblocked 6" square using her pattern:
